Shelley Whatmore was recently chosen to be Global Television’s “Woman of Vision.” As the founder and president of Maxus Technology Inc. she was recognized in the category of “Science, Technology, and Environment” for her dedication to keeping electronics, arguably the fastest growing source of waste in North America, out of landfills.

In 1994, Ms. Whatmore started up the company, which initially focussed on recovering telecommunication waste materials. Now it’s the leading recovery facility for virtually all types of end-of-life electronics waste in Alberta. This summer Maxus worked with the City of Calgary to organize the one of the largest e-recycling events ever held in North America.

On September 1 and 2 Global Television aired Ms. Whatmore’s story. A one-hour news feature on the 2003-2004 Women of Vision will air at a date to be determined.
