Well-known social marketing expert Dr. Wesley Schultz is the guest speaker at a special seminar being held at Hockley Valley Resort in February.
The Association of Municipal Recycling Coordinators (AMRC) is holding the one-day seminar as part of its three-day spring workshop but is offering special rates for those in the environmental educational field. Dr. Schultz’s seminar, Changing Behaviour When There is No Crisis: The Daily Challenge of Waste Management and Communication Professionals, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, February 15 at the resort, near Orangevillle.
Whether an organization is trying to increase recycling rates or decrease water use or sell a new product, each one wants to ensure that their communications are effective and efficient and change behaviours.
However, these communication programs and interventions are often based on faulty assumptions about human behavior, contends Dr. Schultz. The seminar will cover basic principles to design and implement successful communications; the latest research findings; effective marketing what works and what doesn’t, and specific techniques that can implemented immediately.
The cost is $150 to AMRC members, $175 to future members, and $100 for non-profit organizations.
