Pictou County-based Higgins Construction has been awarded the tender to build a transfer station at the Mount William landfill site. The company will construct the building where Pictou County’s garbage will be sorted before being trucked to a second generation landfill in Guysborough.
The building will be constructed from several pre-fabricated sections and will involve design of an elevated concrete floor inside the building where the trailers enter. The tender is valued at about $530,000 for the building itself, but constructing the entire transfer station will cost about another million dollars (to cover the cost of the area grounds and the equipment for the station). The project could start as early as April and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
