The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established new rules for incinerators that burn less than 35 tons per day, as well as institutional incinerators (e.g., hospitals). The requirements will reduce air pollution from the final category of incinerators still requiring regulation under the Clean Air Act by about 1,900 tons per year. Approximately 250 incinerators will be captured by the new rules; EPA rules already apply for all other types of incinerators.
