Dr. John Skinner, SWANA’s Executive Director and CEO, has announced the appointment of David Hernandez, a former SWANA Marketing Assistant, as the association’s new Certification Coordinator.
In Hernandez’s new role, he will be responsible for the day to day activities of a certification program that currently counts over 2,400 solid waste professionals as part of its ranks. In addition to serving those currently certified, a major focus of David’s work will be to increase the number of states that currently accept SWANA certification in lieu of their state requirements.
Hernandez is no stranger to SWANA. Prior to graduating in 2003 from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, David was a part of the association’s Marketing Assistant Program. As part of that program, David worked on a wide variety of projects that included working on an Intranet for the Silver Spring based offices.
"David distinguished himself while he was part of our Marketing Assistant Program," commented Skinner. "I have no doubt that he will bring the same passion to his work with our Certification Program. Our members will benefit greatly from not only his dedication, but his strong belief in taking care of everyone that his work affects."
For over 40 years, SWANA, The Solid Waste Association of North America, has been the leading professional association in the solid waste management field. SWANA’s mission is “to advance the practice of environmentally and economically sound management of municipal solid waste.” SWANA serves over 7,000 members and thousands more industry professionals with technical conferences, certifications, publications and a large offering of technical training courses.
