The Table pour la rcupration hors foyer (the association for out-of-home recycling), a non-profit organization made up of public, private and association partners in Quebec, has introduced a new program to recover recyclable materials outside the home.
The new large-scale program, announced by Daniel Cotte, president and CEO of Danone Naya Waters and president of Table pour la rcupration hors foyer is designed to recover recyclable materials in Quebec’s municipal public areas and in restaurants, bars and hotels.
Supported by the Quebec Federation of Municipalities and the Union of Quebec Municipalities, for the municipal sector recycling, the Table’s program will enable the rapid installation of recycling facilities in parks, alongside streets and bike paths, and in recreation centres, arenas and other municipal public places.
Program components for the hospitality sector (hotels, bars and restaurants) offer two options. In cases where recyclable materials can be recovered on the municipal selective collection route, the program provides funding for two rolling bins per establishment. Where the volume of materials is too great or different recovery conditions are needed, block funding can be provided for a recovery service by a private entrepreneur.
The program will be implemented for three years and $6 million has already been raised. It’s estimated that up to 40,000 tonnes of additional recyclable materials will be recovered.
Funding applications that meet program requirements will be accepted until the fund is expended. Program details, the applicant guide and funding application forms are available on the Table’s web site, www.tablehorsfoyer.ca
