In its review of the province’s Waste Diversion Act (WDA) 2002 the Recycling Council of Ontario (RCO) is holding a consultation and Annual General Meeting.
Writes the RCO, “In its discussion paper on the review of the WDA released October 28, 2009, the Ministry of the Environment contemplated the role of two supporting measures that could significantly boost Ontario’s diversion activities. Join the RCO, in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment, to discuss the role of disposal levies and bans in making Ontario a waste reduction leader.”
Presenters include (to date);
Directeur de l’analyse et des instruments économiques, Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et des Parcs
Original architect of Quebec’s disposal levy, M. Bernier is currently leading the policy review contemplating an increase of Quebec’s disposal levy as well as other regulatory measures to increase diversion in Quebec.
Senior Policy Advisor
Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources
Working with the Ontario Aggregate Resources Corporation (TOARC), Mr. Thatcher has advised TORAC on the collection and disbursement of aggregate fees, the rehabilitation of abandoned pits and quarries, and the collection and publication of production statistics. The RCO has asked Stuart to present the details of the Aggregate Trust as a comparison to what may be contemplated for Ontario’s Diversion Fund. Parallels will be drawn between the policy that created the trust fund, the fee structure and collection mechanisms, the governance of the board that makes decisions about the fund, and the rules and processes that guide what the fund is used for.
