According to Rob Cook, executive director of the Ontario Waste Management Association (OWMA), the organization was informed on Friday, October 29 that the Michigan courts have denied the OWMA’s application on behalf of Ontario companies to overturn the new State of Michigan prohibited-waste material landfill ban legislation starting November 1st.

The OWMA believes that that the National Solid Waste Management Association (NSWMA) will be appealing the decision but there will be no relief in time for the November 1st commencement date for the legislation.

On Monday all loads going to Michigan must have the appropriate paperwork (manifest form) as per the legislation and transfer stations must ensure that the 12 banned materials are not in loads beyond the Michigan ‘de minimus’ guidelines.
