John Nicholson, waste business columnist for Solid Waste & Recycling magazine, will be speaking on the topic “Innovative Waste Management Technologies — Do they Work?” at an Air & Waste Management Association breakfast in Ottawa in April.
There are numerous municipalities in Canada looking at alternative treatment and disposal options for municipal solid waste. New and innovative technologies exist and are being promoted by various proponents. The presentation will examine some of the new treatment/disposal technologies (i.e., ATT) and also focus on specific new technology companies in Ontario and answer the following key questions:
Is there proof that the technology works and to what scale?
How much does it cost?
What would be the level of public acceptance?
Is it a total solution or is there residual?
