On April 25, 2005, the Government of Ontario re-appointed Gord Miller as the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario (ECO) for a second five-year term. As an independent officer of the Legislative Assembly, the Environmental Commissioner monitors and reports annually on compliance by provincial ministries with Ontario’s Environmental Bill of Rights.
“The environmental challenges we face today are greater than ever — Ontario must move toward a more sustainable lifestyle and economy,” Commissioner Miller pointed out.
“The Environmental Bill of Rights has proven to be an important tool in this regard, allowing the people of Ontario to help shape government decisions in favour of the environment.”
First sworn in as ECO in January 2000, Miller has released five annual reports and four special reports to the Ontario Legislature during the past five years.
