The title of a new journal BioCom combines the concept of "Bio"-logical Waste Management in Europe with "Com" -munication. The journal is edited by the European Compost Network (ECN).

The message reflects the main target of the newly founded network which aims to exchange knowledge, information and experiences about sustainable practices in composting, anaerobic digestion and mechanical/biological pre-treatment of organic waste across Europe.

The journal was launched to present case studies, practical solutions, research work, suitable ap-proaches to strategies, standards and new developments in Europe and in the Acceding Coun-tries. This first edition shows the latest endeavours of the ECN and its members. It reflects on im-portant evolutions in the EU Commission which might influence the biological waste sector. The first edition focuses on the activities for the EU Soil Strategy.
