Canadian municipal leaders and city administrators recently took a significant step forward to provide direction to government partners on how municipal government can contribute to meeting Canada’s Kyoto targets. The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), in conjunction with the City of Regina, the University of Regina and the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) hosted the Municipal Leaders’ Forum on Implementing Kyoto at the University of Regina on April 26 to 29, 2003.

Sessions included discussions on topics ranging from: community engagement and education, infrastructure, planning, transportation, solid waste, procurement, resource recovery and wastewater. The recommendations that resulted from the forum will be forwarded to FCM’s board of directors, the Prime Minister, provincial premiers, territorial leaders, and federal and provincial/territorial ministers of energy and environment.
