The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg invites applications for a term position of 17 weeks, starting as soon as possible to conduct a survey of illegal dumpsites and cleanup.
The Project Coordinator reports to the Public Outreach Manager, performing administrative duties and assisting in delivery of the Municipal Illegal Dumpsite Survey and Cleanup.
Under supervision of the Public Outreach Manager, key duties include:
Organizing an inventory and surveying reported illegal dumpsite locations;
Developing a public information campaign;
Answering public calls and recording information regarding illegal dumpsite locations;
Organizing two public meetings encouraging people to report illegal dumpsites;
Liaising with key partners, including the Nova Scotia Department of Environment;
Preparing progress reports;
Organizing for all inspected dumpsites to be mapped using GIS and GPS technology;
Organising for the cleanup of selected dumpsites within budgetary constraints;
Utilizing the project as an opportunity for direct contact with the public in a positive, proactive manner.
Undergraduate qualifications in Environmental Science or Design or Urban Studies or Geography or Engineering or currently studying for the same. Excellent analytical skills, good spelling and grammar skills, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook. Knowledge of publishing programs will be an advantage. He/she must have excellent communication and team work skills, the ability to problem solve and handle new challenges. Necessary to be able to work independently and organize tasks under pressure. Valid driver’s license required.
Wage is $15 per hour.
Municipal benefits do not apply. Vehicle will be provided.
