A second large trash fire within in a year kept Calgary firefighters busy last weekend. Fire crews from the Calgary Fire Department battled a blaze at the Tsuu T’ina landfill site which began just before 1:00 a.m. The landfill is located southwest of the city neighbourhood of Cedarbrae.
In February, a five-day fire on the reserve fuelled by discarded construction material sparked an air quality alert from the Calgary Health Region and a $350,000 bill from the Calgary Fire Department.
The more recent fire was estimated to be the size of a football field, while the one in February was estimated to be twice that size and about 20 metres deep.
