The Environment and Plastics Industry Council (EPIC) recently featured its Integrated Waste Management (IWM) Model in its December 2002 edition of the “Special News & Views Report.” The goal of the IWM Model is to provide municipalities a broad indication of the environmental effects and economic implications of waste management decisions, and to point to strategies that can potentially improve the environmental performance of their waste management systems.

In light of Kyoto ratification, municipalities can use this free computer-based tool to calculate specific greenhouse gas (GHG) emission information regarding the waste management options in their communities.

Access the model on-line at:

For further information, see the feature in the “Hauling / Disposal and Materials Handling” supplement in the February / March edition of Solid Waste & Recycling magazine.
Also see “EPIC Tales” in the April/May 2001 edition.
