Revenue for Waste Services Inc. expanded in its second quarter due mostly to acquisitions and price increases. The Burlington, Ontario-based company also narrowed its loss to $14.5 million, or 15 cents per share, on revenue of $95.4 million for the second quarter. Compared to a loss of $18.6 million, or 21 cents per share, on revenue of $72.6 million for last years fourth quarter. The revenue represents an increase of 31 percent from last years second quarter; it included $8.8 million from acquisitions and $2.4 million from price increases, $1.5 million in fuel surcharges, $3.5 million from increased landfill volume and $2.6 million of internal growth.
"We continue to make progress in increasing disposal volumes at our three municipal solid waste landfills in the United States and were pleased with the opening of our two transfer stations in Florida during the second quarter,” said CEO David Sutherland-Yoest said.
