On July 23, 2002, Hewlett-Packard (Canada) announced a new take-back service to provide Canadian businesses and consumers convenient recycling options for unwanted computers and equipment from any manufacturer. The program will divert these materials from landfills and alleviate the problem of exporting scrap electronics to developing countries. The computer recycling service is HP’s response to the growing concern about the disposal of “e-waste” and is part of HP’s Planet Partners Program, which includes a range of environmental and recycling initiatives.

HP and Noranda have developed a unique process to evaluate in-coming equipment, re-deploy working equipment, extract parts that can be re-used and recycle remaining components.
