N.C. Vasuki, a longtime SWANA member and Past President, was elected ISWA President for 2004-2006 and Greg Vogt, a member of SWANA’s International Board (IB) was named as an Organization Member Representative to ISWA’s Board of Directors at the ISWA World Environment Congress and Exhibition in Rome earlier this month. North American delegates headed by SWANA President Rick Mauck representing the United States and SWANA Past President Al Lynch representing Canada joined delegates from over 40 countries at the annual meeting.

As part of his Presidential Programme Proposal for 2004-2006, Vasuki’s "overriding goal" is "to make ISWA so attractive that membership in some ways becomes ‘obligatory’ for anyone in the industry"

John H. Skinner, Ph.D., SWANA’s Executive Director and CEO stated, "This is an outstanding accomplishment for N.C. and Greg. I am pleased that SWANA will have the opportunity to play such a strong role in the truly global challenge of managing our solid waste in only the most environmentally and economically sound ways."

N.C. Vasuki, P.E., DEE, is currently Chief Executive Officer for the Delaware Solid Waste Authority and previously served as SWANA President for two terms in 1992 and 1993. He is a member of numerous professional organizations including the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Society of American Military Engineers. Greg Vogt serves as a Vice President for SCS Engineers, in charge of the Solid Waste Division of the company’s Reston, Virgina office. Vogt has been an active member of SWANA for nearly two decades, and currently serves on SWANA’s International Board (IB).

During its meeting in Rome, the General Assembly also focused on internal reforms, including the make up of its Board and the oversight process of the General Assembly. During the Congress the General Assembly also welcomed the Waste Management Association of Latvia and the Environmental Engineering Association of Thailand into its membership, giving ISWA a total of 34 national members.
