The Municipal Waste Integration Network (MWIN) is pleased to announce that Gord Miller, the newly re-appointed Environmental Commissioner of Ontario, will be the keynote speaker at the association’s upcoming conference, June 15-16. Mr. Miller will discuss topical issues, including environmental assessment and corporate responsibility in environmental protection.

As with last year’s event, MWIN’s conference again breaks with the traditional “talking heads” format and presents an interactive, “open space” format event in which participants workshop their ideas and develop practical strategies they can implement in their own systems.

MWIN’s Annual Meeting and Conference, entitled “Untangling the Web: The Search for Solid Waste Regulatory Reform,” will also take your comments and incorporate them into a consultation submission to Ontario’s environment minister.

The event is held June 15-16 at the Walper Terrace Hotel in Kitchener.

On Thursday evening, delegates will be given opportunities to win prizes while testing their waste industry acumen playing a new version of The Waste Game, as developed by Solid Waste & Recycling magazine editor Guy Crittenden. Followed dinner, Rolling Stones tribute band “Sticky Fingers” will entertain. (Don’t forget your dancing shoes!)

Other conference highlights include a status report from Stewardship Ontario plus the MWIN Litter Sub-Committee as well as Guy Crittenden’s expert panel “The Deposit/Refund Debate: It’s Different this Time.”

Check the MWIN website at or call Maryanne Hill 519-620-9654 for further program and registration information.

NOTE: Delegates who register after seeing this release should quote “SW001” on their registration to be eligible for the extended early bird discounted rate. Completed registration forms should be faxed or mailed with payment to: MWIN, Box #1116, Ayr, ON N0B 1E0 (Fax: 519-620-9678).
