After almost seven years with CWMA, Andy Telfer has moved on to other challenges. (See earlier news item.) CWMA has hired Julie Gordon as its new executive director.

Julie began her career in solid waste management in the late 1980s, working to establish one of the original municipal blue box programs in Markham, Ontario. In 1993, Julie moved west to take the position of recycling coordinator for the City of Vancouver. Three years later, Julie started her consulting business, continuing to focus on communications and education initiatives related to environmental protection. For the past eight years, Julie has worked on a variety of projects – everything from website development to strategic planning; stakeholder consultations to communications and media relations. She has worked for clients in the public, not-for-profit and private sectors.

Julie looks forward to getting to know CWMA members she hasn’t yet met, and reconnecting with those she has. One of her first tasks will be to check in with members in order to acquaint herself with member needs so she can best serve the association. Assisting Julie with many of the administrative tasks at CWMA will be Pam Stringer. Members can expect to hear from Julie or Pam soon.

Andy Telfer has accepted the position of executive director of the Discovery Coast Greenways Land Trust, whose mission is to enhance the community through the creation and management of greenways networks, based on principles of stream and land stewardship and development, within public and private property partnerships.

“Thank-you to all CWMA members and partners – together we have built CWMA into an organization to be proud of,” said Telfer. “The coastal region of B.C. is shining example of waste reduction and waste management excellence. I wish you all the best for the future.”
