On February 17, 2003, the Automotive Recycling Association (ARA), elected David Gold of Standard Auto Wreckers in Toronto, Ontario to be the new executive director of Region XI. This region includes Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Nunavut.

The gross annual revenue of general automotive recycling in 1997 totaled an estimated $8.2-billion ($7.05-billion in the U.S. and $1.15-billion in Canada). The same year auto recyclers acquired 4.7 million vehicles for the purpose of recycling.

Standard Auto Wreckers is Toronto’s leading auto recycler, purchasing 10,000 vehicles per year at its 11-acre site. The company purchases early and late model insurance salvage and offers free storage for insurance salvage. The operation is fully computerized with a state of the art inventory management system, the PinnacleTM, the only one of its kind in Canada.
