Alcan Aluminum Corporation, a multinational global leader in aluminum and packaging, as well as aluminum recycling, announced on January 5 that it raised more than US $30,000 during its second annual America Recycling Day aluminum can recycling contest to benefit the Cans for Habitat program.
Alcan employees from 13 different U.S. plants collected and recycled nearly one million aluminum beverage cans from September 1, 2003 through America Recycles Day, November 15, 2003.
According to Martha Finn Brooks, senior vice president, Alcan Inc, the values of the aluminum, and the corporate match, raised the funds for the charitable Habitat for Humanity program that will benefit 13 Habitat affiliates.
The recipient of this year’s $5,000 grand prize is the Alcan Berea Recycling Plant. Employees and members of the local Berea, Kentucky community collected the most cans –with 5,700 lbs. as well as topping the average collected per employee at 52 lbs.
