Advanced Disposal Services, Inc., a Southeast regional provider of integrated solid waste collection, transfer, disposal and recycling services is proud to announce that Charlie Appleby, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, won the Florida Division (Real Estate & Construction) of the 2009 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Award. The selection of Charlie for this award was made by an independent judging panel of regional business, academic and community leaders, and announced at a gala dinner on Thursday, June 11, 2009 in Orlando, Florida.

Appleby was one of the founding organizers of Advanced Disposal at its inception in 2000 and has lead the company first as its original President and Chief Financial Officer and since the fall of 2006 as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. The company has grown from a start up with virtually no revenue to a $275 million company in less than nine years. Advanced Disposal continues to grow even in rough economic times by adding value and providing quality customer service to its over 708,000 residential and 34,000 commercial and industrial customers in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. The company runs over 750 trucks and manages over 10,000 tons of waste and recyclables on a daily basis.

“The real winners of this award are our 1,350+ employees who work hard everyday to leave the world a little cleaner than they found it. They are the ones who make my job as CEO such a rewarding position. It is because of them that I had an opportunity to be nominated and awarded this Ernst & Young Florida Entrepreneur of the Year honor,” said Appleby.

Regional award recipients will be eligible for consideration for the Ernst & Young LLP Entrepreneur Of The Year 2009 national awards. Winners in numerous national categories, as well as the overall national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, Calif., on Nov. 14, 2009. The awards are the culminating event of the Ernst & Young Strategic Growth Forum, the nation’s most prestigious gathering of high-growth, market-leading companies.

This year, the Entrepreneur Of The Year awards program celebrates its 23rd anniversary. The program has expanded to recognize business leaders in more than 135 cities in 50 countries throughout the world. Awards are given to entrepreneurs who demonstrate extraordinary success in the areas of innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.
