Advanced Disposal Services, Inc., a Southeast regional provider of integrated solid waste collection, transfer, disposal and recycling services, has announced that Charlie Appleby, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, is a finalist for the Ernst & Young 2009 Florida Entrepreneur Of The Year Award, which will be announced at a gala dinner on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the Omni Champions Gate, Orlando, Florida.
Charlie was one of the founding organizers of Advanced Disposal at its inception in 2000. He has over 30 years of diversified business experience. As CEO he is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the company and sets the “tone at the top” for all corporate activities including acquisitions. Prior to becoming Chairman and CEO in August, 2006 Charlie was President, Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Board of Directors from its inception. From 1996 to 2000 Charlie was President of a private investment company. Charlie is a Certified Public Accountant and from 1977 through 1996 he served in various capacities in several international and local accounting firms specializing in taxation, mergers and acquisitions. Charlie retired in 2001 as a promotable Colonel in the Florida National Guard after 31 years of service to the United States Armed Forces, having served in numerous capacities throughout the world including Deputy Commanding General of the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command and Commanding General of a Florida National Guard Major Command. Charlie is an avid blue water fisherman.
