Reuseful, the award-winning site from that helps visitors find good homes for gently used items, is now better than ever.

“Reuseful has been redesigned to be cleaner and more accessible,” says John Futhey, Director of Interactive Media for “It’s easier to use — the server does all the work for you, and anyone wanting to list an item can now add a photo to the posting.”

A community service initiative from, Reuseful was created to provide a better way for York Region residents to clear out their clutter, rather than taking their discarded items to landfill. It’s an online trading post with a vast array of free used items available, from baby clothes to a baby grand piano. Reuseful also offers Recycling FAQ and information on hazardous waste disposal in York Region communities.

York Region residents are not only using Reuseful to divest themselves of excess stuff, they’re also using it to help others.

“I’ve seen postings from people looking for used items like an electric organ for a shut-in neighbor, and a wig for a friend battling cancer,” says Futhey. “Reuseful was built from a spirit of trying to make the world a better place, and York Region residents have intuitively picked up on that.”

Reuseful won Best New Website Idea at the Suburban Newspapers of America’s 2006 convention, and was also cited as a contributing factor in taking second place in the Best Local Community Website category in 2007. Reuseful gets approximately 20,000 page views per month, and more than 1,000 items have been posted in its brief history.
