Waste Reduction Week (WRW) in Canada is intended to raise public consciousness about waste and its environmental and social ramifications. Its theme, Too Good to Waste, is about conveying an appreciation for the richness and beauty of our diverse world and how we can protect the environment by conserving resources and curbing wasteful practices. WRW in Canada is the only waste related educational program of its kind in the country.
In 2001, the Recycling Council of Ontario (RCO) took the lead role in coordinating a national steering committee comprised of representatives from other recycling councils and like environmental organizations from across Canada. These organizations are committed promoting the importance of reducing waste by supporting the creation and distribution of common promotional and resource materials across the nation.
Working in conjunction with the Executive Director of the RCO and reporting to the WRW in Canada Executive Council, the National coordinator of WRW in Canada will be responsible for Program Development, Administration and Committee Support, Stakeholder Management, Communications, Event Management. Post secondary degree in communications, marketing and/or environmental education, with experience in program development and a strong background in environmental issues. Preference will be given to bilingual. Some travel may be required.
Contract timeline: 1 year contract
Contract remuneration: Based on experience and knowledge.
