A record crowd joined the Recycling Council of Ontario at the Old Mill Inn on October 18 to present the 2007 Ontario Waste Minimization Awards.
HBC and InterfaceFlor Commercial were two of the Platinum winners, among 78 total nominees who took home a range of awards, from Bronze to Platinum.
The awards reflect waste reduction activities at the provincial level and were celebrated at the culmination of Waste Reduction Week in Canada (October 15-21), a national event that enjoys participation from every level of society.
The Ontario Waste Minimization Awards attracts nominees from every aspect of Ontario life; the event offers a forum to recognize the achievements of all those organizations, municipalities, educational institutions and individuals who have championed the advancement of sustainability.
The winners of this years Ontario Waste Minimization Awards demonstrate the renewed commitment toward addressing the waste issues facing Ontario, says Jo-Anne St. Godard, Executive Director of the Recycling Council of Ontario. The champions honored at the Old Mill have set the bar for others and are proof that environmental sustainability is achievable.
The Recycling Council of Ontario is a not-for-profit organization with a 29-year history. Their mandate is to minimize societys impact on the environment by eliminating waste. The RCO mission is to inform and educate about how waste is generated, how it can be avoided and the more efficient use of resources.
