It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Allan Rosen on November 11, 2008 at his home in Curacao, at the age of 51. He was the devoted son of Honey Rosen and the late Jack Rosen of Waterloo, Ontario. Allan was extremely proud of his beloved five sons, Matthew, Noah, Izaak, Alexander and Max. Cherished brother of Judy Rosen (Chris Bart) and Shelley Rosen (Richard Moor). He will be greatly missed by his extended family and friends, including his loving nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles and his Curacao “family”, Jackie and Rudy Dorvale. Born in Kitchener-Waterloo, Allan moved to Israel to pursue his studies and then returned to settle in Ontario, later relocating to California.
A recycling innovator and entrepreneur, Allan worked for many years in the North American recycling community and was notably responsible for the recycling at the Atlanta Olympic Games. Most recently, Allan was the Managing Director of the Environmental and Economic Foundation in Curacao, where he was putting his substantial experience and knowledge of the recycling industry to work in developing eco-innovation projects.
The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 12 p.m. at the Beth Jacob Synagogue at 161 Stirling Avenue S. in Kitchener. The Shiva will be held at 50 Bluesprings Dr., Suite 23, Waterloo. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Allan Mitchell Rosen Endowment Fund, Canadian Friends of Hebrew University (1-888-432-7398) would be greatly appreciated.
