The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) is providing Manitobans with a new cell phone recycling service.

“Instead of throwing their old cell phone in a drawer, a desk or in the garbage, Manitobans should visit www.recyclemycell.ca for more information on how to recycle their old devices,” said Manitoba Conservation Minister Stan Struthers.

Through the Recycle My Cell program, used cell phones and equipment will be refurbished or recycled to make other products. Proceeds from any refurbished phones and scrap materials will be donated to charities.

There are more than 100 different locations where Manitobans can drop off their phones and equipment like wireless cards, batteries and chargers — no matter the brand, carrier or condition.

Struthers said the wireless communications industry’s ” voluntary management approach is something the rest of the electronics industry should be considering.”
