TORONTO – Metro Compactor Service has launched an IoT-enabled system that allows the company to perform remote troubleshooting and fullness diagnostics on customers’ waste equipment anytime, anywhere.
As private and municipal hauling costs in Canada continue to grow, facility managers, multi-residential property owners, and large retailers across the country are feeling the strain of increasing costs in their entire waste stream and they are looking for sustainable, cost-effective alternatives. Metro Compactor Service’s newly unveiled iSMART Generation 2 technology comes as an answer to these challenges.
iSMART’s two-pronged approach to waste equipment and services: asset management to reduce the overall equipment cost over its life, and fullness diagnostics to drive eﬃciency in haulage costs, helps organizations reach and surpass their sustainability and waste efficiency goals.
The iSMART Gen 2 platform is an enabler for the company’s new service model, as it shifts from on-demand service to a predictive and proactive approach. This approach combines technological, logistical, and manpower resources under one roof.

iSMART Generation 2: How it works
High-grade industrial sensors monitor fullness and all key equipment performance indicators. Real-time diagnostic information is uploaded to the cloud where thresholds are set, error messages are monitored, and preventative maintenance can be scheduled.
The iSMART web portal and live dashboard track all data and insights and report on errors which could include low oil levels, damaged plugs, disconnected hoses or a stopped motor. Insight into the condition and operation of the waste equipment leads to more efficient and sustainable overall system performance.
