E-waste is an issue that is coming to the forefront of waste management in today’s business world. Greentec International runs the Think Green program which gives businesses the opportunity to recycle their used printer cartridges and cell phones and in return receive rebates that can range anywhere up to $45 per item. The Think Green program rebates on over 600 different types of printer cartridges and cell phones.

The company will accept all cartridges (inkjet, printer, fax, photocopier) and cell phones even if they are not on their rebate list, making the program very simple for businesses to participate. The cartridges and cell phones are inspected for damage and type and re-entered back into the remanufacturing market for reuse. Items that cannot be remanufactured are broken down into their raw materials for use in new products. Greentec works with remanufacturers all over North America and the world to ensure that the maximum number of collected cartridges and cell phones are re-used.

Think Green business participants can be assured that their collected cartridges and phones are recycled appropriately as Greentec is the only North American company in its industry that is ISO 14001 certified. Businesses who are concerned with liability regarding their e-waste need to ensure that they are working with a company that has the Environmental Management Systems (EMS) in place to properly handle these items. This is not only from the perspective of where their e-waste is channeled but also as to the compliance of the facility and the impact it has on the local community.

Greentec has fostered partnerships with environmental foundations such as Tree Canada and American Forest. For every 12 rebated cartridges or cell phones received, Greentec will plant one tree on the business’s behalf through either Tree Canada or American Forest depending on the company’s location. To date, Greentec has planted over 20,000 trees on behalf of their participants.

Organizations that join the Think Green program are doing their part to ensure that our environment will be safe for future generations. Their business can ensure that their e-waste is recycled appropriately and with benefit to their company whether it be with funding or environmental stewardship.
