The Bollegraaf and TiTech Robot Sorter increases revenues and quality of output. The robot sorter automatically separates recyclables from the rest of the waste material flow. The robots consist of light-weight carbon and aluminum arms driven by servo motors. Up to 8 robot arms pick up the recyclables and accurately separate them into predetermined bins. The solid design of this Bollegraaf machine combined with TiTech Optical Sorting leads to high sorting speeds, short cycle times, and a high degree of positioning accuracy giving the result of material that is pure and constant, generating high material resale value.
A touch-screen terminal allows the operator to quickly make changes to the robot sorting process. The operator can indicate which types of materials are to be designated high priority and low priority. Sending different types of materials to specific sorting bins can also be done at the touch-screen terminal. Each individual robot can recognize several types of materials.
The sorter can be customized to separate more than one fraction with a single near infrared system. Classes of materials to be sorted are pre-defined by the operator. This information is then passed on to the robot’s central control system. The near infrared system reads and classifies recyclables on the belt based on material, color and contour; for instance, PET, HDPE, Tetra-Pack or paper.
The system requires little training to use, which in turn lowers both personnel and operating costs. One robot replaces at least one worker and it can be used 24 hours a day. One robot can handle a maximum of 80 picks per minute — much more than a single person. One TiTech with different robot arms can sort up to 10 tonnes per hour. TiTech machines use little energy and have low operating costs. Installation is relatively easy and the units are simple to handle. The system can usually be built into existing sorting systems and only a small area is needed for installation.
