Peanut butter and jelly, Arizona and air conditioning, baseball and hot dogs. Some things were meant to go together. Take the case of the newly developed Red Box Plus. It’s the first product of its kind that combines a dumpster with an attached portable toilet. Built for haulers and construction workers alike, it appears like an idea whose time has come.
The man behind Red Box Plus is Jeff Matejka, president of Matejka Recycling, Winona, Minnesota.
“I wish I could say the angels of industry came to me with this,” Matejka says. “But, it popped up when I was thinking of ways to generate more business for my firm.”
Red Box Plus is, basically, a one-stop, one-drop piece of equipment. The simplicity of it provides haulers with a high-level of efficiency for the staff and their equipment.
“In a typical set up, taking care of hauling needs requires two calls — one to the dumpster people and one to the portable toilet company,” Matejka says. “Now you get both in one. That makes things a little easier. Streamlining the dumpster and the portable toilet costs into one bill makes things a lot easier.”
The construction is simple. The hauling unit works like at traditional box; the box itself can have one or two portable toilets attached to it. From a fuel savings perspective, the arrival of this idea couldn’t be more timely, since fuel consumption is greatly reduced by using one driver to perform two services.
“The other thing to note is that it cleans up sites,” Matejka says. “We have all seen construction sights with dumpsters here and dumpsters there and a bunch of porta-pottys all over. Red Box Plus makes the locale look cleaner and more eye-pleasing.”
Though designed for construction sites, Red Box Plus is not limited to them. “A Red Box Plus at carnivals, fairs or any outdoor event, really makes sense,” Matekja says.
The versatility attracted Brian Meyer, Midwest Regional Sales Manager for Wastequip, Inc. Cleveland, Ohio. “Red Box Plus can be marketed anywhere,” Meyer says. “It’s not site specific, and it is something everyone can use.”
