On May 1, British Columbia-based ETL Recycling Services Inc. initiated a second five-year contract with the Capital Regional District (made up of 13 Vancouver Island municipalities and three electoral areas). According to John Craveiro, assistant manager of the solid waste division of the CRD, the award of a second contract was based on the fact that ETL provided the lowest cost for processing the container stream and the highest revenue for the fibre stream. (In 1999 ETL paid more than $1.3-million for recyclable materials.) The company’s efficiency will be enhanced in June with the installation of a second MACH II Separator at its Victoria facility and the expansion of its Surrey plant. A new 27,000 square foot container processing facility will include a customer service and training centre.
