The Region of Peel has selected Scott Stewart, former public works manager of waste collection and processing, as its new director of waste management. The appointment fills a position left vacant by John Colonna who has been charged with soliciting a bribe. Says Stewart, “My goal is to further enhance Peel’s reputation as a leader in the waste management field and redefine government by being more focused, consistent, and accountable.” Mr. Colonna’s preliminary hearing was held on July 10 at the Clarence Street court house in Brampton, and has been moved to trial, the date of which was scheduled on August 7.
