Editorial staff from this magazine attended the very successful Pollutec 2002 environmental trade show and conference in Lyon, France during November 26-29, 2002. Reed Exhibitions (the event organizers) claim that more than 60,000 people attended the show, and we don’t doubt it — the huge facility (the Eurexpo facility on the edge of town) was overflowing with people. We won’t guess at the number of exhibitors, but the show catalogue is 1,270 pages long! The event dwarfs anything comparable in North America and represents a fabulous opportunity for Canadian companies interested in selling waste management, recycling or environmental protection products and services into France and the larger European market. Conference sessions were even covered live by an in-house Pollutec TV program.
Highlights of the show included a very popular Canadian pavilion organized by everyone’s favourite federal trade commissioner, Odette Corbu, who was also on hand to introduce the companies to new customers at a gala Canadian reception, held on the trade show floor. Ontario Environment Commissioner Gord Miller joined other dignitaries at a charming evening cocktail party at the sumptuous Palais St. Pierre in Lyon’s famous old quarter.
Next year’s event will be held in Paris in December 2 to 5, 2003. People interested in attending or exhibiting at the event should contact Alison Cousland of Promosalons, 416-929-2562 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
