The Recycling Council of British Columbia (RCBC) will administer the B.C. study, Waste Management of Rigid Plastic Consumer Packaging Discarded and Recycled in B.C. On March 31, Toronto, Ontario-based Enviros-RIS announced that it has been awarded an $8,000 contract to carry out the study. National and local industry representatives and various levels of government are involved in the steering committee. The study methodology departs from the usual format in that it will utilize both traditional waste characterization studies as well as material flow analysis (based on resin and consumer packaged product sales) to quantify, by resin type, the rigid plastic consumer packaging discarded and recovered in B.C. The results are expected to provide the information sought by the B.C. Plastic Advisory Committee to make its recommendations to B.C. Environment Minister Joan Sawicki in time for her recommendations to the CCME level in the second quarter of 2000.
