Solid Waste & Recycling Art Director Sheila Wilson, (far right), and members of her team, take a break at one of the pit stops along the route.
During the weekend of September 19-21, 2003 dedicated Art Director Sheila Wilson joined 3,971 other walkers (men and women), on a 60 km adventure to raise money for research to end breast cancer.
The event took place over three days, starting with the Friday afternoon check in at the Better Living Centre at Exhibition Place in Toronto.
The walk started out from the Bandshell in the park and proceeded 34km north to Downsview Park where the participants camped overnight.
Sunday’s 26km leg of the journey ended back at the Bandshell with a highly charged and emotional finish and closing ceremony.
The event raised an astounding (and for a first time event, unheard of) $12-million.
With a shin splint, sore muscles, a blister and very little sleep, Sheila immediately signed up again for next year. Hopefully a cure for this disease will be found very soon.
