Arecent approval from Ontario’s environment ministry will allow the Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre — which opened in 2002 — to provide organic and recyclable materials processing services to additional communities from across the province. The Centre’s certificate of approval previously only allowed material from within Renfrew County.

“If Municipalities can deliver their material to us we will process it,” Sue Campbell, General Manager of the Centre explains. “The Centre would like to expand to a two-shift operation over the next year or so. We currently, process just over 6,000 tonnes per year and could easily double that tonnage.”

The Centre is an integrated waste management facility located outside Pembroke, Ontario. Operations include a MRF, organics plant, C&D recycling area, HHW depot and a landfill site. A significant commitment to waste diversion has been demonstrated by the local municipalities that has resulted in diversion rates among the highest in the province.
