The City of Kelowna, British Columbia reports that its new curbside recycling program is a success. During the first three months of the program, over 2,000 tonnes of recyclables were collected — a 37 per cent increase above what was collected via recycling depots last year. The new program requires that residents place an unlimited number of clean recyclables in see-through blue or clear bags on garbage collection day. According to Waste Reduction Coordinator Jan Enns, the city collects more recyclables than ever. Four depots handle extra materials.
