The Saskatchewan Association of Rehabilitation Centres and Saskatchewan Environment and Resource Management operate SARCAN Recycling and more than 71 depots. A new plant was opened in February 2000 and commissioned on May 4. The plant processes over 2,000 semi-loads of material per year that contain over 110-million beverage containers (over 89 per cent of all containers sold in the province). The plant produces more than 6,500 metric tonnes of materials annually, including: aluminum cans, plastic bottles, crushed glass, tin, juice boxes, cardboard and refillable beer bottles. The semi-trailer and material storage yard incorporates over 452,000 kilograms of crushed glass in the sub-base and 12,000 metres of recycled asphalt on surface areas (and the bunkers and loading areas) are made of recycled cement.
