A new product, the BLU CART, offers convenience to residents who want to recycle. The mindset “if it’s easy to go from house to curb, we might as well recycle and use the blue boxes provided” is definitely a factor in motivating the householder (or their children).
This has been observed in Southwestern Ontario where the 2 and the 3 level cart systems were literally “rolled out” at a truckload sale from the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority. The public response was excellent and the product appeared in the EWSWA Spring newsletter (Volume 24). From 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. the public picked up over 40 carts with many others inquiring where these are available.
The carts themselves are available in 2-level and 3-level units made of durable 14 gauge channel and tubular steel. Each level will sustain up to 125 lbs. In tests, the company has actually placed 380 lbs. of steel slag on the 3-level cart (distributed evenly). The carts have a durable powder coated paint finish to prevent rust. Each level is adjustable to accommodate various bin sizes. This also allows greater accessibility when boxes are staggered. The whole system allows easy loading, storage, removal and transport of blue boxes to the curb in one simple trip. It can be used for other purposes such as easy transport of office files and containers, water bottles, laundry, fire wood, soil, bagged leaves, flower pots, etc. and is appropriate for homes, campus sites, fabricating shops, mold shops, refreshment or lunch rooms, cafeterias, and more.
