On December 13, 2008 Durham Regions’ new state-of-the-art material recovery facility (MRF) opened. As the operator of the new facility, Metro Municipal Recycling Services Inc. (a division of Metro Waste Paper Recovery Inc.) will process approximately 50,000 tonnes of blue box material for Durham Region in 2008, with the capacity to eventually process 115,000 tonnes a year.

“We’re excited to add this facilitiy to our existing portfolio of facilities that we either own or operate,” said Metro CEO Al Metauro, adding, “It supports the company’s plan to grow and get involved at every level of recovery from both the private and public sectors.”

Serving strictly as a municipal operation for the Durham Region, this $17 million facility sets a new standard in blue box recycling, providing high quality material in a highly efficient manner.
