Environment Canada has contracted Toronto, Ontario-based Enviros-RIS to perform a study of computer and information technology (IT) waste in Canada. The study will assess hazardous and non-hazardous material flows of various IT waste streams and the infrastructure currently available to manage them. It has been estimated that as many as 1.5 million computers will be discarded in Canada each year and that there is as much as four to eight kilograms of lead in each accompanying video display terminal.
