The Ontario Waste Diversion Organization is helping to develop new markets for green glass collected via the province’s Blue Box recycling program. When Molson Breweries moved production of green-bottled beer for export from Barrie to Montreal, Quebec, the move triggered a halt in production of green bottles at the Consumers Packaging Inc. Brampton facility, which shifted production to its New Brunswick plant. The most significant market development is a move on the part of Consumers Glass this week to accept 700 tonnes a month or 8,400 tonnes annually of municipally-collected coloured (green) glass at its Brampton and Milton plants to use in the production of amber glass.
