The 2007 Conference on Canadian Stewardship was convened September 12-13 at the Renaissance Vancouver Harbourside Hotel, Vancouver, B.C. The event examined the role that business is playing in shaping and operating stewardship programs in Canada. An emphasis in the conference was placed upon looking at how these roles are developing, and how stakeholders can work together to make rational, cost-effective producer responsibility schemes work in Canada.
A highlight was when Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan marked a special occasion in the lives of nine young Canadian students when he presented certificates prizes for their schools’ winning top prizes in a national project called the Canadian Youth Eco-Parliament. The program encourages students to take steps to reduce their schools’ eco-footprint. (See article, page 34.)
