All compost roads led to Gatineau, Quebec, in mid-September as The Composting Council of Canada (CCC) hosted its 14th Annual National Conference. Tours of nearby composting facilities, over 45 presentations and a jam-packed exhibit area were amongst the features of this year’s event.
A significant milestone for the CCC was the announcement of the completion of the Standards Council of Canada review of the existing compost standard (as managed by the Bureau de normalisation du Qubec) as well as the introduction of The Council’s Compost Quality Alliance (CQA).
The CQA is a voluntary program established by the CCC and compost producers to spearhead standardized product sampling, uniform laboratory testing and appropriate consumer declaration of product attributes and usage guidelines. Sign-up for the CQA program began as part of this year’s conference with the consumer launch planned as part of the 2005 compost selling season.
Copies of the presentations and the details of the CQA program may be obtained through the CCC by contacting: firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 1-877-571-GROW(4769).
