On November 13, 2000, Toronto, Ontario-based CSR: Corporations Supporting Recycling announced it was negotiating with Packaging Recovery Organization Europe (or PRO Europe) to award CSR the Canadian rights to the “Green Dot” recycling identification system. CSR would license industry to use the symbol that indicates a brand owner has contributed to a recycling or stewardship fund for consumer packaging and products. Canada would be the first North American licensee of the system, which has successfully been in use in Europe for several years. Pro Europe was created by the German Dual System Deutschland to license the Green Dot to other national collection and recovery schemes. CSR expects to complete the negotiations by early 2001.
