The Government of British Columbia has cut its environment budget 28.5 per cent from $263,700,000 in 1995/96 to $188,506,000 in 2000/2001. The Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks is one of the least funded ministries; it’s listed 12th out of 19 ministries in budget size and represents only 0.8 per cent of the total 1999/2000 budget of $21.1-billion. The environment budget has been cut and more than 400 full time jobs have been eliminated at a time when the entire B.C. budget has been increased.
