Philip Services update

Philip Services Corp., based in Houston, Texas, recently announced that it will merge its Industrial Outsourcing Group (IOG) and its Environmental Services Group (ESG) into a single unit headed by Brian Recatto, who currently heads the ESG operations. The company also has plans to sell its Project Services Division (PSD), a unit of IOG. According to Philip CFO Mike Ramirez, the new structure will be less cyclical in nature and will allow for a more optimal level of infrastructure and a more efficient level of debt capacity.

Organics collection workshop

The Association of Municipal Recycling Coordinators held an organics collection workshop on November 21, 2002 at the Town of Markham Civic Centre in Ontario. Topics of the workshop included: the role of data collection in organics management; the Waste Diversion Organization and the future of organics in Ontario; collection frequencies and vehicles; and, case studies of various organics programs across the country. Workshop sponsors and exhibtors included: Norseman Plastics, Miller Waste Systems, Canada Composting Inc., SSI Schaefer Systems, Rehrig Pacific, Clorox Company of Canada, Molok, and others.
